VI.2)Additional information:
Derry City and Strabane District Council has awarded a contract to BMI Regional Ltd to provide a scheduled air service between City of Derry Airport and London Stansted.
The advertised requirement was for a saleable seat capacity of not less than 140 seats per day between the City of Derry Airport and a London Area Airport (i.e.140 departing seats LDY - LON and 140 returning seats LON - LDY).
2 tenders were received for this contract.
BMI offered to provide 3 daily flights on a 48-seater aircraft. Another tenderer offered to provide two daily flights on a 70-seater aircraft.
Neither tender was suitable as they both required a subsidy which was in excess of that which was available and it was determined from the tenders submitted that more capacity was being provided than was necessary to meet the minimum provision of scheduled air services on the route.
[Therefore, to ensure compliance with its obligation to ensure the minimum provision of scheduled air services] the saleable seat capacity requirement was reduced by the Council, and BMI was awarded the contract on the basis that its scheduled air service will be provided twice-daily on a 48-seater aircraft.
It is anticipated that this service shall commence from May 2017.
